SPRING GREETINGS

We all know that time goes faster as we get busier, and as our club continues to grow, we're keen to have as many members involved in all our events, as well as receive your ideas and suggestions for future Retirees events.

It is hard to fathom where the year has gone and all of a sudden the Festive season is upon us again and all the madness that goes with it. This is a good opportunity to stop and smell the roses and spend time with family and friends. We look forward to celebrating our Christmas lunch with you all on the 6th of December, along with our special guest speaker (many of you will know) and club member, Neville Hay.

As always, we need more members to join our committee. Personal experience from our current committee members who have been on many different Committees since the 1970s, all agree that our committee is the easiest and least onerous to serve on, while enjoying the organisation of and attending our diverse events. There are no major commitments - we only have six committee meetings a year, and would be happy to have you on our Committee for even just one year. We welcome fresh thoughts, new ideas and new committee members any time during the year.

RECENT EVENTS Waipuna Lodge Lunch

The Buffet lunch at Waipuna Lodge was very well attended, with 66 members enjoying the convivial atmosphere, nice selection of food and great view. Our President Jo Foged took the opportunity to present our new life members John Gribble, Roley Rackley, and Ian Steel. with their badges. Unfortunately Dick Williams was unable to attend. We now have seven Life members. Check out the excellent pictures of the event.

Alexandra Park Night Trots

A happy group of 18 enjoyed the Club-arranged evening at Alexandra Park Raceway on 19 October. The Lyall Creek Lounge was well patronised, there was an attractive dinner menu on offer and the two tables set aside for the club were soon filled with club members. Bets were placed with either the number of the horse, the driver’s colours or past form being the deciding factor. Judging by the lack of wild celebration, there were no major winners but a few modest bets brought modest rewards.

This was a most enjoyable event which allowed for good conversation in pleasant surroundings and should be repeated.

The article on Cruise Sheet cruising and the prices quoted sounds too good to be true.

Have any members taken up one of these cruises and if so what are their experiences?

Can you share your Pro's and Con's please.

Replying to

My experiences of several cruises is the price is for an inside cabin., don’t go there we always go for outside cabin. ( pice for that one $995 ) if somebody gets covid and is confined to cabin , nice to sit outside in the fresh air and read a book etc. Also if an American cruise ship prices some time in American dollars. Also be prepared to spend many dollars on drinks and shore excursions . Still good value accommodation, meals entertainment etc. Norm Clarke

Hi Its good to keep in touch with the team and get all the news I get the news from the southern branch by PDF which is very convenient as my computer is always asking for some sort of upgrade. Many thanks to our committee for keeping us informed as in Tauranga one feels a bit distant. Traffic does not help our main road looks like Ukraine you would have to see it to believe it. I keep busy with Volunteering for ICRC for Ukraine Funraising and Alzheimers in case I need it one day Ron Chamberlain 24713
