September 2021 Newsletter

CLUB NEWS

We hope you’re all managing to keep yourselves busy through lockdown - it’s not easy! Particularly when the weather keeps you indoors ! However there are always books to read, photos to sift through and reminisce over, and keeping in touch with friends and family through social media.

Our news was going to include photos and a report on our Weta Workshop and Stardome events but of course those have had to be postponed. Delta permitting we will have something for you in the next Newsletter.

In this live 360-degree experience, your planetarium will take you on an extraordinary tour of the stars, planets, and constellations visible from our little corner of the globe on the night of your visit Private showing begins at 1.30 pm

3rd November 2021 NEW ZEALAND MARITIME MUSEUM PLUS a ONE HOUR SAIL ONBOARD THE SCOW TED ASHBY

Set sail on the heritage scow Ted Ashby - a ketch-rigged deck scow, typical of the fleet of scows that once operated in northern New Zealand waters - for an hour-long cruise in Auckland's Harbour.

Prior to boarding the vessel stroll around the Maritime Museum which is open from 10am to 5pm allow approximately 2 hours to see the galleries and perhaps have some lunch

Sail commencement time is 1.30 pm PLEASE arrive 30 minutes prior to sail departure to check in. Make sure you bring weather appropriate protection such as a jacket and sunscreen as all vessels are open. Only flat footwear may be worn.

Cost is $20 per person Numbers are limited so book now to guarantee your entry! Final Booking and payment date - 27th October 2021

ALMONERS REPORT

PARKINSON William George (Bill) passed away suddenly on 7th August at his home. Bill worked in Engineering Avionics and Components workshops 1970-2006. A service for Bill was held at The Chapel of Love and Remembrance on Saturday 14th August.

BARLOW, Mary Helen (nee Kamutoa). Born 11th July 1946. Passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family on the 18th August 2021. Helen worked as a Secretary in Head Office, Route Management and Inflight Services. Correspondence regarding a Memorial Service to barlowjarrad1@gmail.com

RACKLEY, Elizabeth Ruby. Died peacefully on Sunday August 15, 2021, after a short illness. Adored wife of Rollend (Roley) our past Treasurer. The service that was to be held on Monday 23 August is postponed until next lockdown level announcement. All communication to contact@naturalfuneral.nz

WHITE, Geoffrey Morris (Geoff). (RNZAF 72500, Captain Air New Zealand.) Born September 28, 1927. Passed away at Albury, New South Wales on 21 August 2021. Geoff was very well known as a pilot flying Solents with TEAL, then a variety of different aircraft with Air NZ, captaining the last successful flight into Antarctica. HERMANNS, Ronald (Ron): Ron died peacefully at his home on August 30, 2021. He was 109 and New Zealand's oldest person. He served in the Pacific as an aircraft engineer in WW2, then after the war he became a Senior Instructor at the Aircraft Engineering Workshops at Christchurch Airport, initially for NAC, and then for Air New Zealand. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date. (non member)

WEST, Jeanette Louison (nee Treloar) passed on 29 April 2021 aged 85 years. Jean worked at NAC and Air NZ Engineering.

SUBSCRIPTIONS

A reminder to all members that subscriptions are due immediately after being set at the AGM in June each year and to remain as a paid up financial member the current year's subscription plus any arrears must be paid. Members whose subs are more than one year in arrears are assumed to have lapsed their membership.

  • When you receive your newsletter by email, the message will include an invoice/statement showing your subscription status at the time the email is sent. If you have a payment due (or overdue) please click on the link to make your payment online.
